The Council for Responsible Genetics fosters public debate about the social, ethical and environmental implications of genetic technologies.” Through the Biowarfare program, “CRG works for an end to the development and use of biological weapons, as well [as] to so-called biological ‘defense’ research with clear offensive applications. To advance this effort, CRG continues to put pressure on the United States to ratify the verification and enforcement protocols of the BTWC and extend the Convention to cover all genetic modification of biological agents for military purposes.

The Virtual Biosecurity Center (VBC) is a global multi-organizational initiative spearheaded by the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) committed to countering the threat posed by the development or use of biological weapons and the responsible use of science and technology.
