Please join the Homeland Security Policy Institute and the Bipartisan WMD Terrorism Research Center (WMD Center) on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 for a Policy & Research Forum Special Event, “The Threat of Bioterrorism: Improving America’s Response Capabilities.” This event will feature Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT), Representative Mike Rogers (R-MI), and former Senators Bob Graham (D-FL) and Jim Talent (R-MO) – who served as the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Bipartisan Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism and now serve as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the WMD Center.
The distinguished panelists will discuss the WMD bills before the Senate and the House of Representatives, the role such legislation might play in improving America’s resilience to an act of bioterrorism, and the reauthorization of the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act.

Frank J. Cilluffo, an Associate Vice President at The George Washington University leads GW’s homeland security efforts on policy, research, education, and training. Cilluffo directs the multi-disciplinary Homeland Security Policy Institute, a nonpartisan “think and do tank” that builds bridges between theory and practice to advance homeland security through a multi and interdisciplinary approach.

Senator Joe Lieberman is now in his fourth and final term representing Connecticut in the United States Senate. Senator Lieberman is Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which is responsible for oversight of the Department of Homeland Security and assuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the Federal Government. In addition, he is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, where he is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Airland and sits on the Personnel and Seapower Subcommittees; and the Small Business Committee.
Representative Mike Rogers (R-MI)
Chairman, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence
Representative Mike Rogers is serving his sixth term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Representative Rogers is Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and also serves on the Health Subcommittee and the Communications, Technology and the Internet Subcommittee of the House’s Energy and Commerce Committee. As a member of the Intelligence Committee, Rogers issued a report on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, wrote a bill to protect against chemical and biological threats, and co-wrote a bill to reauthorize the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

Senator Bob Graham served three terms in the Senate representing the people of Florida, during which he chaired the Senate’s Select Committee on Intelligence. During his final term, Graham co-sponsored the bill to create the Director of National Intelligence position and co-chaired the Joint Inquiry into Intelligence Community Activities Before and After the Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001. After leaving the Senate, Graham served as the Chairman of the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism, and now serves as the Chairman of the WMD Terrorism Research Center.

Senator Jim Talent served Missouri in the U.S. House of Representatives for eight years, from 1993 to 2001. While in the House, Senator Talent served on the House Armed Services Committee and served as Chairman of the House Committee on Small Business. As a senator, Talent served on the Senate’s Armed Services Committee, and Chair of its Sea Power Subcommittee. After leaving the Senate, Talent served as Vice Chairman of the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism, and now serves as the Vice Chairman of the WMD Terrorism Research Center.
