9:00am – 4:00pm
This symposium will highlight new developments and improvements by laboratories of the National Interagency Confederation for Biological Research focused on Diagnostics and detection systems and bioforensics.
Research towards the development of Diagnostics and detection systems involves the identification of novel biological targets, development of new or improved Diagnostics assays, and critical testing and evaluation of system components. A Diagnostics/detection system requires assays, reagents, platforms, protocols, validation testing, and a concept of operation (intended use).
The research and development path encompassing these focus areas is a complex process involving contributions from multiple independent scientific disciplines. New technologies and approaches offer the opportunity to look at the identification of biological warfare threats and emerging infectious diseases using highly multiplexed and orthogonal approaches that can target the agent and the host.
The rapidly growing area of bioforensics, especially microbial forensics, examines trace amounts of biological materials from a bioterrorism or biocrime event or from natural outbreaks. Bioforensic scientists answer important questions, such as what kind of biological agent was used, how it was prepared, and where and when it was made.
Those interested in speaking or presenting a poster should send a short abstract. The abstract will be used to organize the Symposium and will not be published.
Abstracts must be received by Jan 20, 2012.
